Growing in Unity Day 5

Hello and welcome to my final day of Growing in Unity.  It's been a fun week of sharing my projects with you all.  I am hoping at the least to inspire one person to try something new or just go get messy and create and let your creativity flow.

Sometimes creating with different emotions can bring amazing things.  I have come up with some great things when I'm sad.  Beauty comes from everywhere and every feeling.

So today my project uses the word Inspire.  And I hope I have inspired you.

I had a lot of fun playing with my tags from yesterday that I decided to play on a couple different canvases to see what I would come up with.

I started out by using Gesso so the color burst wouldn't just soak into the canvas.  After that was dry.  I started playing with the same colors as yesterday.  Using my heat tool in between to get the darker areas.   On the first one, I attached the stencil "Inspire" to the canvas before I sprayed.  I actually thought it would cover the area and come out as the background color, but to my surprise it all gathered underneath.  I used my heat tool very carefully as to not melt the stencil to dry the color underneath.  Happy lil accident.  I loved how it turned out.  After everything was almost dry I removed the stencil and dried it the rest of the way.  I just kept playing until I liked the background.  I then took the same stmp with the leaves and painted them carefully to only get the leaf and stamped it until I was happy.

The second canvas I did at the same time.  Only added the stencil at the end and highlighted it with a reg. Pen.  Then I went back over both with a gel pen and a paint pen to highlight the word.  I purposely wanted it to fade into the background.  So make sure you click on the image to get a good look at it if on your phone.

I hope you liked my projects this week and it is always sad when the GIU week is over.  Remember to comment on all of my posts this week for a chance to win some amazing Unity!!!!  I will pick my winners at the beginning of the week and post them here and on the GIU post.

Have a great day

Hugs

Growing in Unity Day 4

Hello everyone.  Welcome to my blog and my day 4 of Growing in Unity.  Make sure you are commenting all week for your chance to win some Unity.  I will be picking winners and posting them at the beginning of next week.  So head back to Day 1-3 to comment as well.

So today I have another project for you.  I actually decided I wanted to play around with my Ken Oliver color bursts... I remember when he first came out with them... I had to have them.  And now he has all sorts of different ones.

I made some really cool tags for today.  I started out adding a little bit of Gesso to the tags so that the color and water doesn't just soak up into the paper and become a mess.  After that was dry,  I started adding different colors and spritzing with water to help the colors run together.

There really is no wrong way to play with colors bursts as you just have to play... Get messy and have fun.  And get messy you will.  They may even stain your hands too.   Ok back to the project.  When I was happy with the colors, I used my heat gun to start drying the tags out.  This also moves your colors around.  When they were all dry,  I decided to use only the leaves from one of the stamps.  Tis is something I actually do a lot of.  I only want part of the image.  This stamp is a post card stamp and really cute, but I just wanted to use the leaf.  So I used some of my Deco art antiquing cream white.  I painted it on the stamp with a paint brush as to only get the part I wanted.  Then I stamped each tag.  Note every time you stamps you will have to repaint it and stamp again.  I also used the flying birds stamp in this kits to add to the background.

Here are my tags.

You will see the leaves changed color some.  Stayed on the white side but the color from the color burst kind of bleeds into it.  I personally love how they turned out.  Let me know what you think and don't forget to leave those comments for your chance to win.  See you again tomorrow for my last day of Growing in Unity.

Have a great day!!

Hugs

Amy

Growing in Unity Day 3

Hello.  Welcome to Day 3 of my Growing in Unity week.  Today I'm sharing a different kind of project.  It's on a wood Canvas.  I mod podged some tissue paper I had to the wood to give it a Vintage looking back ground.  I then took a stencil to add the bee hive type look for texture.  Using my Deco Art paints.  I distressed the background and edges.  I again decided to use the Eiffel Tower stamp and detached the word love to use it in a different way.

I found some gears in my stash and used them staying with the Vintage/Steam punk theme. I added a few more embellishments and layered some things under the stamped image to make it pop up off the canvas more.

I hope you enjoyed Day 3 and don't forget to head back to the previous days to comment for a chance to win.  Please leave your comments today as well to have a chance to win some Unity!

Thank you for joining me. Have a great day.

Growing in Unity Day 2

Hello my crafty friends.  Here we are with Day 2 of my week as a GIU Gal!!!

Today I have another canvas for you.  I decided to go a lot lighter on colors with this canvas.

I started out again with a burlap stencil and whipped spackle to give me some texture in the background.  I then also used another stencil, Tim Holtz splatters and used some metallic lustere to add the design.  I used paints and paste wax as well as the lustre again to color my background.

After that dried, I used some Nuvo drops to add some more color and texture.  I Stamped my image using Cathrine Pooler inks and fussy cut it out.  I grabbed some embellishments from my stash and arranged them until I was happy with their placement and attached them with glue.

Thank you again for joining me for my week for Unity Stamp Company.  Remember to leave your comments every day for your chance to win some Unity!!! And please go back to previous days and comment as well.

Have a great day!!

Growing In Unity Day 1

Good Morning and Thank you for joining me for my first day of my Growing in Unity week.

All week long I am using my Unity Stamp Company Vintage Era Background Kit stamps.

You will notice I do a lot of mixed media.  And alot of things on canvas as well.  I think outside the box sometimes and come up with meat ways to use stamps.  Which you will see later in the week.

Let's kick this day off with a bright and colorful mixed media canvas.

I started off by using a brick wall stencil and some whipped spackle to add some texture in my background.  After letting that dry, I started playing with colors using mixed media art spray and Prima Art Alchemy paints.  I wanted to leave it lighter in the middle and darker towards the outside. Almost like the sun was shining thru clouds.

After letting that dry and I was happy with the colors. I Stamped my image and fussy cut it out.  I also burnt it a little with a lighter to add the burnt look.  I then arranged different embellishments around until I was happy with the arrangement.

I hope you enjoyed my creation for Day one. Remember to leave a comment every day for a chance to win some Unity!!!

Have a great day!

Amy

Growing in Unity Day 5

Good Morning!! Welcome to day 4 of GIU!!  Today I'm sharing a Canvas I made. I honestly wasn't sure what I had in mind to do.  I just sat a blank canvas in front of me and started sketching away.  I sketched out a broken clock and decided I hadn't tried some pens I bought a while back and I should see what they were about. So I just started coloring and shading away and this is what I came up with.

At first I wasn't sure I was shading right with the pens because I wasn't seeing the blending right away but just kept going. Switching back and forth with each color I found what worked well together and what didn't.  After my clock was finished I went back with a small pen and added cracks.  I then shaded those cracks.

I decided that I had to add a little bit of my style in there and grabbed my Finnabair paints and added a cool background.  I started looking thru my sentiment stamps to see which one fit what I just created and the perfect one flip out on the table. "You don't know how beautiful you are, do you?"  I thought about it and stated that actually fits.  A broken clock, beautiful???  In the right person's eyes.  Yes. It sure is!!! I also decide to add a few more positive sentiments as well.  Because the world needs more positive thoughts.

I hope you enjoyed today's project as well as the last 4 days. It has been a pleasure to be this week's Growing in Unity Gal. Thank you Unity for the wonder opportunity.  And Thank you for all the amazing Stamps you make for us to create with.

I will be choosing my 2 winners this weekend. So get your comments in to have the chance at a $20 GC to Unity Stamp Company!!!!

Growing in Unity Day 4

Good Morning everyone. Today I am sharing two tags I made.  I started out by using gesso on my tags so my colors I was going to use would show. These tags were brown in color and would not hold much color if I tried to add it without gesso.  Gesso also helps so any liquid doesn't just soak straight into the tag.

After the gesso dried, I started playing with Ken Oliver's liquid watercolor.  Adding a little water to help the liquid flow.  After I was happy with the colors I used my heat tool to dry them and set the color in.  I chose to make both of them different. The first one with an older, rustic look and the second with a very colorful look. The second one I also decided to add to the background and used a stencil in black ink using my blending brushes.

I used Unity Stamp Companies Feel the Joy stamp.  It comes with a flower stamp and a sentiment.  So I used both. One on each tag. Since the rustic tag is lighter in color I stamped directly on the tag.  The other I stamped on some white cardstock to make it pop.

I hope you enjoyed my project today.  My week is coming to an end so tomorrow's post will be my last day. Make sure your getting those comments in on each day of my blog posts so you get the chance to win!!!

I will be selecting winners soon.  2 winners will get $20 GC to Unity!!!

See you all tomorrow.

Hugs

Amy

Growing in Unity Day 3

Good Morning!! We are officially on Day 3 of GIU and today I am sharing a simple card I made playing around again with my blender brushes.  The stencil is so pretty and made a wonderful background.

I started out by blending the ink thru the stencil and added darker spots on purpose to give it that water colour look.   I found that going in circles with my brush helped blend from dark to light.

I then stamped my sentiment from Unity Stamp Company, layered another color behind it to make it pop and added some twine and flowers from my stash.

A pretty simple yet fun card to make.

I hope to see you all tomorrow.

Remember to leave a comment herr on the blog each day this week to be in the running to win!! 2 winners for a $20 GC will be picked at the end of the week.

Hugs

Growing in Unity Day 2

Good Morning!  I'm here for day 2 of my Growing in Unity week.  Today I have a card to share.  It has a little mixed media feel to it.  And a sentiment that is so true.  "Change is never easy. You fight to hold on and you fight to let go."

In so many situations this can be true.  We all have dealt with the smallest having to let go moments but its the big ones that stay with you forever.

I started out by using my stencil and my blending brushes. I placed my stencil over the card, I suggest taping it down using a less sticky tape like washi tape.  I, however just held it in place because the stencil was bigger than my paper.  I blended the ink around in a circle with my brush until I was happy with the color.  I then used a paper glaze medium to go over the outside of the design to get some texture.

After it was dry I decided to use some distress crayons to distress the background just a little by rubbing it on with my finger.

I stamped my sentiment and added a little color behind to make it pop. I finished it off with a metal find from my stash.

I hope you enjoyed my card today. Remember to leave a comment each day here on the blog to be in the running to win $20 from Unity Stamp Company.

I will pick 2 winners from all the comments at the end of the week.  See you all again tomorrow.

Hugs

Amy
